Just Keep Swimming...

Seriously, why did it take me this long to decide on movie inspiration for this week's Project Run & Play challenge?  I'm a huuuuuge Pixar nerd, so the kids have gotten plenty of exposure to Dug and Kevin, Sully and Mike Wazowski, WALL-E and EVE, and, of course, Nemo!

Fun fact: WALL-E was the first movie Riley ever watched, and we watched WALL-E exclusively for any TV time for almost an entire year.)

Fun fact #2:  Whenever either of the girls see a peacock or a peacock-like bird, they shout out, "Kevin!!"

So, yeah, we're cool like that.  I promise my children don't sit in front of the television all day.  For real.

Anyway, here are my Finding Nemo-inspired looks!

Let's have some quotes to lead into these, shall we?  Who remembers this one?

Marlin: How many stripes do I have?
Nemo: Dad, I'm fine...
Marlin: Answer the stripe question.
Nemo: Three.
Marlin: SEE?  Something's wrong with you.  I have one... two... three?  That's all I have?

Noelle is kind of a Dory personality.  She would gladly just keep swimming; just keep swimming; just keep swimming, swimming, swimming!

Squirt: Good afternoon. We're gonna have a great jump today. Okay, first crank a hard cutback as you hit the wall. There's a screaming bottom curve, so watch out. Remember: rip it, roll it, and punch it.
Marlin: It's like he's trying to speak to me, I know it... Look, you're really cute, but I can't understand what you're saying. Say the first thing again!

And some details on the girls' outfits...

Noelle's has a blue lace overlay over a bright and cheerful yellow damask print.  I wouldn't want to forget the touches of black that Dory has, so her straps are outlined with black lace, and she has pops of black buttons on the bodice and skirt.

She has a headband made from scraps of the dress.

Yeah... this is about right for these two. :)

Riley's pants are elasticized at the knee-- at the white stripe.  This makes them more flexible and comfy, especially since I wanted them a little more fitted with her bubbled up top.  I love how they just fold with her when she bends her knee.
Actually, I made the pants for Riley first and had her try them on.  I excitedly said, "Look!  They look like Nemo!  Right?!"  I don't want to say she gave me a look of disgust, but she kind of gave me a look of disgust and replied, "No.  Nemo has black, too."

Quite right, kiddo.  Problem rectified in the top. :)  At least I got the stripe question right...
Speaking of the top, she has a lots of gathering in her top stripe, elastic in her middle stripe (for easier on and off) and pops of black bias tape.

She also has a big frayed flower hairclip with a white button center.

Brooks got a little more literal translation of his Squirt outfit.  His summer hoodie is made of a soft knit.

 It has a turtle hood.

And he has an appliqued shell on his back.

Mismatched buttons, because I'm pretty sure that's how Squirt rolls. :)

There may be plenty of fish in the sea, but I don't know any fish(or turtles) as cute as these!

  1. These are all adorable outfits... but I must say, squirt is my favorite! Great idea to applique the shell on the back!

I love comments more than I love buying new fabric, and that's saying something. :)
